Ayer por la tarde mi amigo Iban y yo estuvimos buscando un gestor de arranque que me permita elegir qué disco duro quiero cargar al iniciar el ordenador, de forma que pueda acceder a Windows XP o al recién instalado Ubuntu. Probamos el GAG, y al instalarlo nos detuvimos en un paso que nos sonó a puro chino: "escoja la configuración de teclado que utiliza", decía, y entre varias opciones recuerdo que ofrecía QWERTY y DVORAK, cosa que me sonaba más a música sinfónica que a teclados de ordenador, pero en fín. Por supuesto que como buenos valientes no nos detuvimos en ese paso, sino que escogimos el primero (QWERTY), siguiendo el razonamietno de que la primera opción siempre tiende a ser la más universal.
Hoy me ha picado la curiosidad y he echado un vistazo a la Wikipedia:
[...] Si miras al teclado de tu ordenador seguramente verás que la primera secuencia de letras es QWERTY. Esa secuencia es la que da nombre a esa disposición del teclado. Todos nos hemos preguntado por qué las teclas siguen un orden tan caótico. [...] Las Máquinas de escribir mecánicas accionaban un pequeño martillo (que imprimía la letra correspondiente) al pulsar cada tecla. Si se pulsaban dos o más teclas a la vez, o muy seguidas, los martillos chocaban unos contra otros, y la máquina se atascaba. Por este motivo, ya las primeras máquinas de escribir incorporaban este teclado, que está diseñado para minimizar las posibilidades de que esto se produzca.La conclusión tampoco tiene desperdicio:En este teclado, en posición de reposo, cuatro dedos de cada mano se colocan sobre la fila central de teclas. En esta fila sólo hay una letra vocal (la a), cuando éstas son de las más utilizadas. Además, esta tecla está en la posición del dedo meñique de la mano izquierda, uno de los lugares menos favorables del teclado teniendo en cuenta que las antiguas teclas requerían ser pulsadas con fuerza.
Esta disposición de teclado se llevó a los teclados de ordenador para facilitar la entrada de los mismos en las oficinas, desplazando a las máquinas de escribir. De esta forma, las personas encargadas de 'mecanografiar' documentos seguian sabiendo manejar los nuevos teclados. [...]
[...] Una vez más, mantener la compatibilidad con sistemas anteriores limita las posibilidades de los nuevos sistemas. De hecho, existen otras disposiciones de teclado muchísimo más eficientes, sobre las que se han realizado multitud de estudios científicos, todos ellos premiando a estas distribuciones en contra del teclado QWERTY. [...]No sé, quizá yo sea un ignorante del tema, pero siempre me había preguntado la razón de que el teclado siga semejante... ¿orden?. Una cosa tengo muy clara: ¡viva el QWERTY!, que lo suyo me costó aprenderlo.

Al parecer según leí hace poco la configuración DVORAK está mucho más optimizada para escribir textos en inglés, y teóricamente se obtiene con la práctica mucha más velocidad, incluso se recomienda para aquellas personas que sufren la dolencia del "tunel carpiano" en las muñecas, pero después de 15 años utilizando teclados QWERTY creo que se me haría demasiado duro que de un día para otro me descoloquen todas las teclas...

Hasta donde yo se, el teclado QWERTY no tiene nada que ver con el DVORAK ya que el DVORAK nos cambia las teclas de sitio, eso si, haciendo que, con la costumbre sea mucho mas rapido y facil escribir, pero cuando pulsamos la Q en un teclado DVORAK escribimos >.

Realmente el teclado QWERTY fué diseñado a posta para escribir despacio. Esto viene de cuando se creó para las máquinas de escribir, y si escribías demasiado deprisa, las piezas de la máquina se enredaban. El DVORAK está pensado para escribir más deprisa, ya que suele disponer las teclas para que (estadísticamente) las palabras se escriban alternando letras de ambas manos... o eso creo.
bueno la verdad creo que es una muy buena idea renovar el teclado ya que el qwerty es muy lento, no entiendo por que la gente no intenta cambiar su tecnica de escritura, deberian hacerlo no pierden nada con intentar modernizarce.
